New discoveries about how plants live offer us an opportunity to continue to learn more about ourselves and our world. From the microscopic beginnings as a single egg cell, to becoming the primary source of oxygen, food, shelter, and energy, plants are full of new information waiting to be revealed.

From the functions of genes inside a single cell to complex interactions of organisms in large ecosystems, agronomists are discovering new ways to use plants to improve our lives and seeking better ways to manage fragile ecosystems we desperately depend upon. An agronomist is an “explorer of plant life”.
